It’s finally summer, and while this season can make for some of the most pleasurable drives, it’s also an important reminder to service your vehicle and prepare it for the heat, humidity, and precipitation that come with the hottest season. Follow these summer car service tips to avoid problems and stay safe on the road.
Conventional wisdom holds that
battery problems are most frequent in the winter, but the intense heat of
summer can cause just as many issues for your car’s battery, if not more.
Batteries are susceptible to both heat and vibrations. Confirm that the battery
is well-mounted, as this will minimize vibrations. Clean any corroded pieces on
the battery terminal and the clamps; there will be more build-up during the
summer due to the quick evaporation of the battery fluid.
inflate the tires
The heat of the road in summer
leads to many more tire blowouts, especially when the tire is under-inflated.
Fill it up to its ideal PSI, which can often be found in your owner’s manual or
inside the driver’s door, and check the pressure once a month.
a cool engine
Regularly flush your cooling systems and always check the overflow reservoir to keep the coolant at the optimal level. The last thing you want is to see smoke billowing out of your engine because it is overheated.

Walter Hight started out selling potatoes, hay, straw, and hemlock bark. In 1911, he started selling Fords and kicked off what would become a family legacy. At the time, Ford vehicles came disassembled, six in a box car.
Soon after, Hight moved to selling Buicks produced and driven straight from the production line. It was at this point that he came up with the Hight tradition: “You put us first in sales, we put you first in service.”
Walter’s toughest obstacle to creating a successful dealership was converting people from horse and buggies to motor vehicles. To do this, he made sure every vehicle came with a personal driving lesson. Vehicles didn’t come with a large manual, so customers had to trust the salesman to teach them everything about the vehicle.
Now in its fourth generation, the Hight family continues to run the central Maine dealership. Our sales team remains vigilant to provide unbeatable dedication to the customer. Stop in to see just how we treat each and every customer that comes through the door.
